What is the difference between normal wear and tear and renter caused damages?

Even with proper use, van components, gear and supplies will wear out. Renters are liable for damages they cause while traveling in your van, such as dents, scratches, or damages due to misuse. Renters are not responsible for damages that occur because of long term use, such as worn out camping chairs and blown fuses, or components or systems that malfunction at no fault of the renter.
